I know a lot of great things about tech, points, miles, and more. Since I have so many things to share, I decided to create a referral page. Here's a list of programs, services, apps, and credit cards I think you might enjoy. If you like them, you often get something for being a referralee (is that a word?) and I might get a referral bonus myself. Yay! Win-win!
Points and Miles
Here are some of my favorite point and mile earners (at least the ones that have referral links):
The Amex Blue Business Plus card is legit my favorite business card! Why? 2 Membership Rewards points for every dollar is like 4% back. That's HUGE! Up to $50,000/year in spend can get 2 MR/$.
CURRENT REFERRAL: 10,000 Membership Rewards® points after they use their new Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership (but this referral link works on ALL Amex cards, so choose your favorite!): httq.
The Amex Everday card is a great and easy starter card for everyday folks. There's no annual fee. You get 1 Membership Reward (MR) point per dollar spent. You get 2 MR points per dollar at grocery stores. If you use this card at least 20 times in a month, you'll get a 20% bonus on your MR points, effectively making it 1.2 MR points/$ and 2.4 MR points/$. Yas.
CURRENT REFERRAL: 15,000 Membership Rewards® points after they use their new Amex EveryDay® Credit Card to make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership (but this referral link works on ALL Amex cards, so choose your favorite!): http://refer.amex.us/LEIGHC4qz2?xl=cp27
Although Marriott engulfed Starwood, they still have the Amex Starwood Business credit card which offers a huge bonus for anyone that has a business name, even if it's a DBA.
CURRENT REFERRAL: 75,000 bonus points after they use their new Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership (but this referral link works on ALL Amex cards, so choose your favorite!): http://refer.amex.us/LEIGHCX2Uf?xl=cpf5.
The Amex Starwood Luxury card is a no brainer for anyone that is willing to stay in a fancy Marriott at least once per year. It costs $450/year (WOAH!), but wait! It comes with a $300/year Statement credit at Marriott/Starwood properties. It also comes with a free night eligible for up to 50,000 points. 50,000 points = $450 worth of hotel. Um. Hello. The card pays for itself just with the free night!
CURRENT REFERRAL: 75,000 bonus points after they use their new Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership (but this referral link works on ALL Amex cards, so choose your favorite!): http://refer.amex.us/LEIGHCRuAx?xl=cp27.
The Chase IHG card was my first hotel credit card. This was my first foray into "Apply for the card. Get the sign-up bonus. Throw it in my sock drawer. Use the free annual night each year." It's that easy. Highly recommend.
CURRENT REFERRAL: Earn 80,000 bonus points with the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. I can be rewarded too if you apply here and are approved for the card. Learn More. https://www.referyourchasecard.com/251/CHJ9HHJDA6
CURRENT REFERRAL: Earn 2 Free Night Awards with the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card. I can be rewarded too, learn more. https://www.referyourchasecard.com/252/SXONQX91LT
I don't have a car. I live in NYC. The reason I include this is because the hidden, underlying company is called the Rewards Network. They sponsor reward dining for all of the airlines. The issue is that none of these programs have an app with a map of places you can dine. Not to worry because Fuel Rewards has an app! So use their app to find where you can dine for extra/free points and miles! (Be sure to first sign up for the dining program of your choice here.)
CURRENT REFERRAL: Join here: https://www.fuelrewards.com/fuelrewards/welcome.html?RefId=403ed38586e84a3abe2a874e324519ea
If you shop online, you need to join TopCashback. Period. They give back the most cash of any of the cashback places. They have a guarantee to back it up. I mean, hey, they’re called TopCashback for a reason!
CURRENT REFERRAL: I don’t think you get shit, but I get paid! https://www.topcashback.com/ref/laffingleigh.
This is the grandfather of the shopping portals. Go here FIRST, click to a place you would normally shop online, make money. Period. Even better, they have a browser extension that reminds you to click through with them, which is invaluable. I would have missed the cashback so many times was it not for that Ebates pop-up.
Pay ANY bills with your credit card and get points and miles. This is a great way to meet your minimum spend on a new credit card, though not an ideal way, unless they are fee-free dollars. Thankfully, Plastiq runs promotions, like the one in my referral below, that allow you to pay things for free.
CURRENT REFERRAL: Pay any bill by card with Plastiq. Use my referral code & pay $500 worth of bills to get 500 fee-free dollars: https://apps.plastiq.com/cardholder_ui/start?referralCode=694257
Every booking on Rocketmiles comes with free points and miles. Be aware, though, that many of them are not the best deal. (1) You can often find a cheaper price on another site. (2) The difference is the amount you're paying to obtain those points and it is often not a great deal. This site is best paired with business travel so that they can cover the costs.
CURRENT REFERRAL: Sign up now and earn 1000 Miles for your first hotel booking!: https://www.rocketmiles.com/refer/LEIGHSGOTMAIL
Uhhhh, so, uh, do you want $350? Cuz if you open up a Chase checking and savings account, you can get $350. Um, okay, wow! That's easy!
CURRENT REFERRAL: You can get $200 with a new checking account and another $150 with a new savings account with qualifying activities: https://accounts.chase.com/raf/share/438194488
All of the referrals on this page provide me with some kind of kickback. This one doesn't, but provides YOU with $100. This is a MUST MUST MUST if you travel internationally and it's FREE! Sign up for the Schwab Bank Checking account. Why? All ATM fees are reversed and there's no foreign transaction fees. THIS IS HUGE. Every bank charges something so it's a big deal that they don't!
CURRENT REFERRAL: Welcome, you've been referred to Schwab and have the opportunity to get $100.: https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/nn/promo/refer-prospect.html?refrid=REFER6EWEPPU2
If you don't have an online-only savings account, now is the time to get one. Why do I recommend this? Out of sight, out of mind. What you do is set an auto-transfer. Set it and forget it. And then presto, you have a savings account that is building your emergency fund and you didn't even realize it was doing it!! YAY! I used Capital One 360 as my first online savings account and BOY has that account saved me more than once because I forgot it was there and I suddenly had money set aside!
CURRENT REFERRAL: Make bank! Get $25-$100 for opening up an account: https://capital.one/2Liw93b
There are a lot of great ways to make money. Hooking on the corner, for example. After you get that money, now what? Well, here are some apps I love:
I use this as an aggregate "all accounts in one place" app. Err'thang I own is in this app. I link all my banks and credit cards here and it gives me neat little charts and graphs so I know how much I have.
CURRENT REFERRAL: We both get $20 if you link a qualified investment account (like a taxable brokerage, 401k, IRA, 529, etc.): https://share.personalcapital.com/x/BX3uYn
For all of you homosexuals out there, here's an Airbnb for gays. Gay-friendly hosts for gay-friendly guests. Yay!
Here are some apps that'll save you time in your life. As someone who is self-professed to be extraordinarily busy in comparison to the masses, these tools I found to be very helpful.
I can't say enough good things about x.ai. Amy, who is my virtual assistant, and who is also artificial intelligence, schedules my appointments for me. It's like magic!! I literally send an email, copy Amy (firstname.lastname@example.org), and she takes over, emailing back and forth with my contact until the appointment is setup. I use it for both my business and my personal life. I'm talking A+ style. There was a learning curve. For example, I had to learn to set my appointment window appropriately so that Amy would stop scheduling me at 8a. I also needed to learn to constantly keep my calendar updated. If it's free in my calendar, it's free and available to Amy, so it's got to stay up to date! LOVE. THIS. APP.
There are so many plans on so many companies that there's got to be a way for cheaper bills.
BillShark has saved me hundreds of dollars! They reduce wireless, cable, internet, home phone, home security bills by calling the companies in your name and getting you a better deal. While, generally speaking, they have done a great job, you've got to double check their work. One time they reduced my cell phone plan by giving me unlimited internet, but it became a slow 2G speed at a certain point. For me, that was not tolerable, so I had to call to get that reverted. More often than not, though, they've removed a feature I didn't want or committed to contract that I agreed with and reduced my bill for me. FREE MONEY!
Everytime you and one other person eat at a place on the Seated app, you get a Lyft, Starbucks, or Amazon reward, and we're talking like up to 25% off your bill. It's significant!
CURRENT REFERRAL: Seated gives you $10 - $50 in Amazon or Lyft credit every time you dine out. Use my promo code "LEIGH24" to get an extra $5 reward!: https://seated.app.link/NbJCsd3MCG
I have a lot of cool art in my place. Here are some of my favorites:
Get a super cool looking world map (or star map) colored however you'd like for your wall. I freaking LOVE this place. (Also, the name i provided for the link is funny: http://craftoak.refr.cc/leighroy.)
