You can choose to feel good.

I went for a walk earlier today. It was the middle of the day and the sun was shining on my face. It really felt nice. And I thought to myself, I'm really fortunate. Today is a good day.

It feels good to feel good.

Don't you agree?

I'm of the belief that life is to be enjoyed. There are plenty of things in life that are troublesome, drama-inducing, and stressful, so I make a concerted effort each day to focus on what is going well. I don’t see the point not to.

If there's something I know for sure, it's that situations that I experience negatively are going to happen inevitably. I also know that it's up to me and only me to create my own happiness. If I were to choose not to focus on things that are positive in my life, I would then not notice them. And that's no good! What a missed opportunity!

It feels good to feel good.

I got a little behind on work earlier in the day and started to ruminate in my head about all the emails I had to send. My task list always seems to be never-ending so I added one additional task to clean out my task list. Right in the middle of trying to complete some of the work I was doing, I had a client call. I stopped what I was doing to focus on my client's needs and desires.

But it's okay. I love what I do. It feeds me and fills me to be of such assistance to others.

It feels good to feel good.

You may have a lot on your plate, with stressful situations abounding. But it's only the moment of now. This won't last forever. Keep that in mind and be thankful for the things that have gone well in your life. You didn't get where you are today without a lot of good. So take a moment to really reflect on what went well to get you to where you are today.

It feels good to feel good.

For my clients who share that they ruminate a lot about what is wrong, I often recommend starting a gratitude practice.  It not only helps you see your own thoughts about life, but it also focuses on the positive. After all, it's up to us to define the life that we want. We're only on this Earth for as long as we're on this Earth, so why not maximize the positive?

So the next time you find yourself thinking of all that is wrong in life, catch yourself. Negativity just leads to more negativity. Use that as a gift--an opportunity to stop, reframe, and observe what’s going well. After all…

It feels good to feel good.
