How to be more successful

My clients are very busy, high performing folks. It doesn’t mean they’re the most effective nor the most efficient at what they do. But there are certainly best practices that can be gleaned from others.

Here are the three most important things you can do to improve your life:

  1. Yearly goals

  2. Weekly review

  3. Daily prioritizing

Yearly Goals

Firstly, take the long scope. If you don’t know where you’re headed, then any direction is the “right” direction. But will it lead you to feeling alignment? Hence, yearly goals.

When’s the last time you asked yourself where you want to be in a year? If you don’t know, it’s time to do it right now. What would you like to accomplish one year from today? I want you to stop reading this. Right now. Open up an email. Choose the numbered outline button. Write out your year from now goals.

I mean it.

Do it right now.

Done? No? Seriousleigh. Do it right now.

Are you for real done?

Okay, great. Now add in my email at top and send it to me it’s my first name @leighcambre.com (not hyperlinked here because listing emails on websites is a recipe for bot spam, but my first name is Leigh in case you don’t know). If you email me, I will hold you accountable. :)

Weekly Review

Secondly, it’s your weekly review. My clients know this as their Amazing Weeklies. The purpose is to take a look at the beginning of your week to really see what’s possible. Choose 1-3 goals you’d like to accomplish. Next, figure out what obstacle(s) might get in the way and plan how to get around. Finally, it’s time to firm up what might actually be the first small step to get a move on.

This small task of looking at your week makes a big, big difference in the ability to move toward your goal. Without this look, it’s so much easier to move into overwhelm, thinking you’ve failed when you didn’t accomplish all 36 unrealistic items on your to-do list. (Ugh! No wonder you’re overwhelmed!)

Daily To-Dos

Finally, it’s time to look at your daily to-do list. The first principle I want to underline here is the word daily in daily to-do list. If you have a long list of everything that needs to get accomplished in your life regardless of timing or effort, you’ll naturally be overwhelmed because you’re allowing your mind to look at some things that, in this moment, are unreasonable or not possible right now. Your daily job is to reality check what’s truly possible for today and today only.

Start by reviewing your calendar. What is really possible given the appointments you have? Which appointments are required, which are encouraged, and which are optional? Modify your calendar. Secondly, look over your emails, but do not answer any. This is just to discover any fires. From there, compose your daily to-do list that is realistic, achievable, and possible, given the day ahead of you. Prioritize it so that you have your musts at top so you know exactly what you’re looking accomplish.

Voila! With that, you now have a much more bite-sized and reasonable look ahead. For as long as you stick with this (and you will not be perfect and sometimes fall off the wagon), you’ll discover you make serious strides in movement toward your dreams, desires, and wants. It won’t be consistent and life will get in the way, but it’s the practice that brings you closer to your desired pathway.

I fully support you.
